CUSTOMCELLS® CTO Dr. Daniela Werlich and Stefano Saguatti from Manz Italy S.R.L. will discuss the question "Can European battery cell production be competitive?". The event will take place on February 25th, 2021 from 16:30 - 17:15 (CET). It kicks off a series of online discussions where experts from the battery cell ecosystem will have the opportunity to debate, contribute ideas and network with each other. This format opens a channel for critical reflection on important issues facing the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) battery cell production, starting with production in Europe.
1. scalability as the main challenge for "Made in Europe" production
2. gender equity as an approach to solving the skills shortage problem.
The discussion series is related to the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) Battery Cell Production. The IPCEI aims to move the entire value chain to Europe to make Europe a global market player. Major investments are being made to open gigafactories in Europe, as demand for battery cells is expected to grow strongly in the coming years. In addition, IPCEI aims to contribute to achieving the goals of the European Green Deal and therefore places great emphasis on sustainability and innovation. The session is organized by the accompanying research team of IPCEI's European Battery Innovation program (led by VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy). The team promotes the establishment of battery cell production in Germany and Europe, networks the funded projects with stakeholders of the battery cell production ecosystem, supports political decision-making processes and moderates the stakeholder dialogue.
